Bach and Vivaldi
For Bach piano music, you have to get some Glenn Gould (Maria Joao Pires is also good), and for Vivaldi, I'm not much of a strings guy so I don't know about performers (maybe Perlman) but I like his violin concertos and of course the four seasons.
Classical: Mozart is the main man, although I prefer piano sonatas by Franz Haydn
Romantic (my favorite period): CHOPIN! I don't have a favorite performer. Start with his preludes maybe, the etudes are great too (as well as anything else, i have it all).
The more modern stuff... I dunno... Sibelius. OH, Max Richter.

When getting stuff, I prefer to never get an album as a "collection" of like "20 best Romantic pieces" I prefer to get an album of straight up ONE composer. It tends to include something the performer has focused on, but not necessarily. So search for some of those composers. Maybe go on youtube to sample them first.

Jian Wang is my favorite cellist and he has a beautiful album of Bach's cello suites. Look for that too.

Re: in dire need of some classical music

hey everyone, thanks for the recommendations.

anymore soundtrack recommendations? theyre rather easier to find for me than the more older type classical, even though i do appreciate them just the same.

=D

Re: in dire need of some classical music

try downloading songs from gilberto concerto by paul gilbert. :D

Re: in dire need of some classical music

I'm pretty into classical and I can compile some recommendations.
